Maasai culture is re-invented in Fashion and Design

Creating spectacular pieces using beads, wires,  strings was a daily pass time for every maasai woman some time back. The culture was mainly to beautify young brides when they got married and the pieces were worn only for beauty and to make a statement. It was an un spoken statement of fabulousity. As time went by the culture faded as the women embraced modern ways of dressing and accesories.
Beadwork was never a means of business and upon arrival of british colonialist, the culture was greatly admired by the settlers and millions flocked to the Manyattas to admire this phenominal culture. Few pieces were traded and hence the world started opening up to our unique way of living. This led to our women going back to the age old culture of beading and dressing in the red shukas to entertain the tourists.
Osiligi Maasai Designs was mainly started to enhance this unique culture and dress up the world with unique trends that meet the world standards. Financial empowerment to women who have no other source of income was a driving force behind the project and what other way to do it best than encouraging the women to go back to their cultural roots of beadwork.
